PEX-AL-PEX tubing for radiant heating
Standard PEX tubes are also used in radiant heating applications. But since they are devoid of any kind of metal, their efficiency is somewhat lower compared to PEX-AL-PEX tubes. That is why, these days Pex-Al-Pex Tubing
is being increasingly used in radiant heating appliances nowadays.
As has been mentioned earlier, it is the aluminum sandwiched between two PEX layers which works it’s magic & makes all the difference. This aluminum layer increases heat output & also acts as an impenetrable oxygen barrier. Use of aluminum also makes the tubing stronger compared to regular PEX tubing & it becomes easily bendable. Once the PEX-AL-PEX is bent, it maintains its shape & does not spring back to its original form. This easily bendable quality of PEX-AL-PEX makes it easier to install them under the floor (staple up).
Certain aluminum PEX tubing comes with an additional ultraviolet coating which protects them in a greenhouse environment. Use of PEX-AL-PEX in radiant heating applications also means that one will not have to buy costly heat diffusion plates. So, PEX-AL-PEX does not just increase the efficiency of radiant heating applications, it also lowers the cost by eliminating the requirement heat diffusion plates.
There are many types of aluminum PEX tubing available today in the market which is used for radiant heating purposes. Some of them have oxygen barrier while some other are devoid of it. The size of these PEX-Al-PEX tubing also vary from one another.
The aluminum PEX tubing with oxygen barrier prevents oxygen from entering the tubes & thus prevents rusting of the aluminum sheet inside. This makes the PEX-AL-PEX tubes long lasting & durable.
Another thing that PEX-AL-PEX tubing does is that it distributes heat evenly through the floors, warms them & then rises up to heat up the room. It makes the environment of the house extremely comfortable. When the floors are warm, all the objects of the house, whether it is chairs, tables, beds etc. becomes warm & presents you with nice & cozy warm environment inside the house in a cold wintery night.
